    Study Notes

    Rules for the Offense

    • The offensive team is the one that has the ball and must observe specific rules.
    • The ball must be bounced or dribbled with one hand while both feet are moving.
    • A player can only move one foot (called the pivot foot) if both hands touch the ball simultaneously or if they stop dribbling.
    • A player can only dribble once; resuming dribbling is a double-dribbling infraction.
    • The ball must remain within the boundaries of the field; losing the ball out of bounds results in a turnover.
    • While dribbling, the player's hand must be on top of the ball; carrying the ball (touching the bottom of the ball) results in a turnover.
    • The offensive team cannot return to the backcourt once they have crossed half court; doing so is a backcourt violation.

    Defensive Rules

    • A foul is defined as gaining an unfair advantage through physical contact.
    • A defensive player cannot contact an offensive player in a way that causes them to lose the ball or miss a shot.
    • This rule applies to all players on the floor, including offensive players.
    • Players are not allowed to kick or hit the ball with their fist.
    • Players cannot touch the ball when it is falling towards the hoop or on the rim (goaltending).

    Pointing System

    • A free throw is worth 1 point.
    • A goal shot within the perimeter is worth 2 points.
    • A shot beyond the 3-point line is worth 3 points.

    Physical Activities and Health

    • Engaging in moderate to vigorous physical activities requires great effort and can lead to temporary health conditions like dehydration, overexertion, hypothermia, and hyperthermia.
    • A good pass is one that a teammate can catch.
    • To lower body temperature and reduce sweating, use wet towels or a water mist on the skin.

    Additional Activities

    • Watch a basketball game on YouTube and observe the players' skills and common problems encountered, such as dehydration and overexertion.
    • Fill out a table with the game title, URL, player names, skills shown, and common problems encountered.

    Safety Protocols

    • (To be filled out as per the additional activities)
