- Developed as an indoor game to provide an "athletic distraction" for a rowdy class during the winter

Basketball Rules
- 13 rules initially developed
- Teams of 9 players, later reduced to 5
- Basketball court dimensions: 94ft x 50ft or 28m x 15m
- Basketball ball circumference: 29.5-30 inches for men, 28.5-30 inches for women
- Basket size: 18 inches in diameter
- Scoring: Free throws (1 point), field goals (2 points), 3 point shots (3 points)
Basketball Positions
- Center: Tallest player, plays near the basket, rebounds and blocks shots
- Power Forward: Plays near the basket, rebounds and defends taller players
- Small Forward: Roams the court, scores from short and long distance shots
- Point Guard: Runs the offense, best dribbler and passer, defends the opponents' point guard
