Mountain Ranges

• The Greater Caucasus mountain range runs along the border with Russia and Georgia
• The Lesser Caucasus mountain range runs along the border with Armenia and Turkey
• The Talysh Mountains are located in the southeastern part of the country
• The Shahdagh Mountain Range is located in the northeastern part of the country
• The highest peak is Mount Bazardüzü (4,466m) in the Greater Caucasus

• The climate varies greatly depending on the region, with the coastal areas having a subtropical climate and the mountainous regions having a cold climate

Water Resources

• The Kura River is the longest river in Azerbaijan (1,515km) and flows into the Caspian Sea
• The Aras River forms the border with Turkey and Iran
• The Sefidrud River flows into the Caspian Sea
• Azerbaijan has a total of 1,100 lakes, with the largest being Lake Sarysu (67.4km²)
• The country has a total of 246 rivers, with 21 of them being more than 100km long

Natural Landscapes

• Azerbaijan is home to a variety of natural landscapes, including:
  • Mountains (40% of the country)
  • Forests (13% of the country)
  • Deserts (2% of the country)
  • Coastal areas (11% of the country)
  • Plains (34% of the country)
• The country has a total of 8 national parks and 11 state reserves

Tectonic Activity

• Azerbaijan is located in a seismically active region, with frequent earthquakes occurring
• The country is situated on the boundary between the Eurasian and Arabian tectonic plates
• The Greater Caucasus mountain range is still growing due to the ongoing collision between the two plates
• The region is also prone to mud volcanoes, with over 400 located in the country

• Böyük Qafqaz dağ sırası Rusiya və Gürcüstan sərhədi boyunca uzanır
• Kiçik Qafqaz dağ sırası Ermənistan və Türkiyə sərhədi boyunca uzanır
• Talış dağları ölkənin cənub-şərq hissəsində yerləşir
