The Ram Mandir dispute has its roots in the 16th century when the Babri Masjid was built in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Hindus believe that the mosque was built on the site of Lord Ram's birthplace, and that a temple existed on the site before the mosque was constructed.
The dispute escalated in the 19th century, with Hindu groups demanding the destruction of the mosque and the construction of a Ram temple.

On December 6, 1992, a large crowd of Hindu activists, including members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), demolished the Babri Masjid, leading to widespread rioting and violence.
The demolition sparked a wave of communal riots across India, resulting in the deaths of over 2,000 people.
The event was widely condemned, and the Indian government established a commission to investigate the incident.
