Study Notes

ADIZ Procedure

  • All aircraft entering Tehran FIR must use published ATS routes at FL150 or above, unless specifically permitted to do otherwise.
  • Aircraft must make point of FIR boundary estimate within ±5 minutes.
  • Non-compliant aircraft are subject to interception.
  • Aircraft must establish contact with air defense radar station on 127.800MHZ or 135.100MHZ at least 10 minutes prior to entering Tehran FIR for military identification and avoidance of interception.
  • This is especially important for flights entering via Persian Gulf and Oman sea.

Radio Contact

  • If Tehran ACC is notified of failure to establish radio contact, the only response is "ROGER".
  • Controllers may relay position information to air defense radar, and flight data assistants may be asked to perform this duty.

Communication Guidelines

  • All communications between controllers/flight data assistants and air defense officers should be carried out through the supervisor.

Formation Flights

  • Formation flights are only accepted if item 9 of the flight plan indicates so.
  • The exact number and types of aircraft involved must be included in items 9 and 18 of the flight plan.
  • Formation flights are treated as a single aircraft with regard to service provided by Tehran ACC.
  • Separation between aircraft in formation is the responsibility of the flight leader and pilots-in-command of other aircraft.
  • Separation distances within formation flights are:
    • 1 km (0.5 NM) laterally and longitudinally
    • 30 m (100 ft) vertically from the flight leader
  • In RVSM airspace, 1000 feet separation between formation and other RVSM-approved aircraft is applicable only if all participating aircraft in formation are individually RVSM-approved.
