- The Chesapeake Fire Department issues "Red Tags" and "Yellow Tags" to reduce the risk of fire and life-safety code violations.

- The owner or responsible party will be advised of the circumstances and the appliance/device cannot be used until repaired/replaced.
- A Red Tag survey must be completed while on-scene and Chesapeake Development and Permits will be notified.
- The Red Tag shall not be removed until the defective equipment is properly repaired or removed from service.
- Any fire suppression/detection system that presents a risk to life will be deemed unreliable and a Yellow Tag will be issued.
- The owner or responsible party will be advised of the circumstances and a fire watch must be maintained until the system is back online.
- A Yellow Tag survey must be completed while on-scene and Community Risk Reduction will be notified.
- The Yellow Tag and fire watch shall not be removed until the system has been properly repaired and documentation reviewed by the Fire Marshal.
- Replacement or repair of a fire suppression/detection system may require a permit and plans review through Community Risk Reduction.
