Professionalism and Rules for Clinical MRI Students

• Clinical rotations are like a long job interview and a strong recommendation from the professionals at the clinical site carries a lot of weight when it comes time to look for a job.
• Termination from a clinical site will have a drastic effect on academic career and the reputation of the school, staff, and peers.
• Students will have patients under their care and it is a serious responsibility.
• Formal rules include being on time, reliable, taking detailed notes, wearing a uniform, being an asset to the department, and communicating in the event of an emergency absence.
• Cellphone usage, taking pictures in patient care areas, and accepting monetary tips or gratuities are strictly prohibited.
• Violations of patients' privacy, insubordination, possession or use of alcohol or drugs on hospital premises, and immoral or indecent conduct are cause for immediate termination or dismissal from clinical affiliations.
• Students must drive up to 50 miles or more each way to the clinical site, provide their own health insurance and immunizations, and means of transportation.
• They must successfully complete all of the required clinical objectives and assignments of each course and maintain records of clinical attendance and evaluations.
• Students must maintain regular prescribed clinical assignments by reporting on assigned days and at the assigned time, and notify the assigned Clinical Preceptor and the Clinical Coordinator in the event of illness/absence.
• They must maintain appropriate behavior and conduct while on clinical assignment, including patient confidentiality, following departmental regulations, and providing safety to patients and personnel.
• Proper/required dress, appearance, and grooming must be maintained, including wearing the required uniform, prescribed identification nametag, and avoiding any pull-over type sweatshirts.
• Students who do not adhere to the Code of Ethics, Rules of Conduct, or Clinical Regulations may be subject to disciplinary probation, suspension, or expulsion from the program, and causes for disciplinary action include excessive or unjustified absence or tardiness, inefficient or careless performance of duties, and failure to observe safety rules and regulations of the clinical site.
