Contract article 16 Annual Leave Policies Overview

Employees gain annual leave based on their years of service and work schedule. There are two main work periods: 7 Day Work Period (40-hour employees) and 27 Day Work Period (24-hour shift employees).

Employees with less than 6 years of service accrue 40 hours of annual leave per year for a 40-hour work schedule and 24 shifts per year for a 24-hour shift schedule.

Employees with 6 to 15 years of service accrue annual leave based on a monthly rate calculated for both 40-hour and 24-hour work schedules.

Employees with 16 to 24 years of service have a specific hourly or shift accrual rate. 40-hour employees accrue 9.67 hours per month, and 24-hour employees accrue 24 hours for 12 shifts.

After 25 years, employees reach the maximum accrual. For 40-hour employees, this is 19 hours per month, totaling 228 hours, while 24-hour employees accrue 36 hours for 18 shifts.

Annual leave for 27 Day Work Period employees includes vacation time and defined holidays.

27-day employees can accrue up to 36 times their monthly accrual rate at the time of scheduling.

Unused annual leave can be carried over to future years. Upon separation, they can be paid out but capped at 24 times the monthly accrual.

7-day employees can accrue up to 46 times the monthly accrual rate when scheduling for the following year.

7-day employees can accumulate up to 58 times the monthly accrual rate until their scheduled leave is taken.

Upon separation, 7-day employees receive payment for unused annual leave, but it's capped at 34 times the monthly accrual rate.

Annual leave scheduling is based on seniority, with approval from the District Chief and Fire Chief.

Employees requesting more than their normal leave allowance need to provide 62 hours' advance notice.

Employees can request to split their annual leave into multiple segments, as long as it doesn't disrupt operations.

Employees can only schedule annual leave based on their accrued amount.

If an employee falls ill during their annual leave, they can convert it to sick leave with a doctor's note.

Employees receive payment for unused annual leave upon separation, provided they have worked for at least a full year.

Employees are ineligible for leave payment if their separation is due to misconduct.

When employees transfer between 40-hour and 24-hour schedules, their accrued leave hours are adjusted. It increases by 1.3 for 7-day to 27-day transfers and decreases by 1.3 for 27-day to 7-day transfers.

Employees can take annual leave in one-hour increments or half-shift increments, depending on their work schedule.

Specific time blocks are designated for half-shift scheduling for day and night shift members, allowing flexibility.
