Study Notes
Animal Cardiac Cycle
- The double circulatory system is more efficient in transporting oxygenated blood around the body because it keeps oxygenated and deoxygenated blood separate.
- The pulmonary circuit carries blood to the lungs to be oxygenated. Carbon dioxide is removed from the blood. Oxygen is taken up by haemoglobin.
- The systematic circuit carries blood around the body, delivering oxygen and returning deoxygenated blood to the heart.
- The cardiac cycle is a sequence of mechanical and electrical events that repeats every heart beat. It includes two phases.
