Study Notes
Upper Limbs Arteries
- Subclavian Artery: arises from the arch of the aorta (left) and brachiocephalic trunk (right)
- Axillary Artery: arises from subclavian artery, begins at the lateral border of the 1st rib, and ends at the lower border of teres major
- Brachial Artery: arises from axillary artery, terminates at the level of the neck of the radius, and divides into radial and ulnar arteries
- Radial Artery: arises from brachial artery, felt at the wrist joint by pressing with 3 fingers lateral to the tendon of flexor carpi radialis against the radius bone
- Ulnar Artery: arises from brachial artery, felt at the wrist joint by pressing with 3 fingers lateral to the tendon of flexor carpi ulnaris
Lower Limbs Arteries
- Femoral Artery: continuation of external iliac artery, ends by entering through adductor hiatus, and felt by pressure with 3 fingers midway between the anterior superior iliac spine and pubic symphysis
- Popliteal Artery: continuation of femoral artery, ends at the lower border of popliteus muscle by dividing into anterior and posterior tibial arteries
- Posterior Tibial Artery: arises from popliteal artery, felt by pressure with 3 fingers midway between the medial malleolus and the insertion of Achilles tendon into calcaneum bone
- Anterior Tibial Artery: arises from popliteal artery, felt by pressure with 3 fingers midway between medial and lateral malleolus
- Dorsalis Pedis Artery: continuation of anterior tibial artery, felt by pressure with 3 fingers in the first intermetatarsal space just lateral to the tendon of extensor hallucis longus
Upper Limbs Superficial Veins
- Dorsal Venous Arch: arises by merging the metacarpal veins, located on the dorsum of the hand
- Basilic Vein: arises from the medial side of dorsal venous arch, travels along the medial side of the forearm and antecubital fossa, and ends into brachial vein in the mid-arm
- Cephalic Vein: arises from the lateral side of dorsal venous arch, travels along the lateral side of the forearm and antecubital fossa, then lateral to biceps muscle and then medial to deltoid muscle, and ends into axillary vein by piercing clavipectoral fascia
Lower Limb Superficial Veins
- Dorsal Venous Arch: arises by merging the metatarsal veins, located on the dorsum of the foot
- Small Saphenous Vein:
- Great Saphenous Vein:

Description
This quiz covers the anatomy of the upper limbs vasculature, including the subclavian, axillary, brachial, radial, and ulnar arteries. It also discusses the origins and locations of these arteries.
