Thoracic Cavity
- Enclosed by the ribcage
- Organs present: heart, lungs, trachea, esophagus, and large blood vessels leading to and from the heart
- Heart and blood vessels are located in the middle part of the cavity
- Lungs are located laterally, while trachea and esophagus are located in the back
Abdominal Cavity
- Located immediately under the diaphragm, separated from the thoracic cavity
- Divided into two parts: peritoneal and retroperitoneal cavities
- Upper part of peritoneal cavity contains: stomach, duodenum, spleen, liver, and gallbladder
- Lower part of peritoneal cavity contains: small and large intestines
- Retroperitoneal cavity contains: kidneys, ureters, and large blood vessels
Pelvic Cavity
- Lower extension of the abdominal cavity
- Comprises: bladder, urethra, rectum, prostate in men, and reproductive organs in females (uterus, uterine tubes, and ovaries)
- Located in the middle region of the pelvic cavity
- Large blood vessels and nerves pass through it laterally
Extremities
- Divided into upper and lower extremities
- Upper extremities connected to the trunk by the shoulder joint
- Consist of three segments: arm, forearm, and hand
- Joined by two articulations: elbow and wrist
