Study Notes
Deltoid Muscle
- Anterior fibers originate from the anterior border of the lateral 1/3 of the clavicle
- Middle fibers originate from the lateral border of the acromion
- Posterior fibers originate from the lower lip of the spine of the scapula
- Inserts into the deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
- Innervated by the axillary nerve (C5&6)
Subscapularis Muscle
- Occupies the medial 3/4 of the subscapular fossa
- Inserts into the lesser tuberosity
- Innervated by the subscapular nerves (C5&6)
Supraspinatous Muscle
- Occupies the medial 3/4 of the supraspinatous fossa
- Inserts into the top of the greater tuberosity (double)
- Innervated by the suprascapular nerve (C5&6)
Infraspinatous Muscle
- Occupies the medial 3/4 of the infraspinatous fossa
- Inserts into the middle impression of the greater tuberosity
- Innervated by the suprascapular nerve (C5&6)
Rotator Cuff
- Consists of Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Subscapularis, Teres major, and Teres minor muscles
Teres Minor Muscle
- Occupies the upper 2/3 of the dorsal aspect of the lateral border of the scapula
- Inserts into the lower impression of the greater tuberosity
- Innervated by the axillary nerve (C5&6)
