The major regions of the brain in the central nervous system are the cerebrum and cerebral cortex, the diencephalon, the brain stem, and the cerebellum.

The two main divisions of the nervous system are the central nervous system (CNS), which includes the brain and the spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system (PNS), which consists of the neurological system outside of the brain and spinal cord.

The cerebral cortex is responsible for the higher functions of the nervous system such as memory, emotion, and consciousness.
