Study Notes
Scapula Landmarks
- The lateral end of the clavicle corresponds to the acromion.
- From SP C7, move 3 vertebrae inferiorly to locate the medial border of the scapula.
- The spine of the scapula corresponds to the levator scapulae muscle attachment.
- The inferior angle of the scapula corresponds to the Teres Major muscle attachment.
Muscle Attachments
- The spine of the scapula corresponds to the trapezius muscle attachment.
- The medial border of the scapula corresponds to the rhomboid minor and major muscle attachments.
- The lateral border of the scapula corresponds to the teres minor muscle attachment.
- The superior angle of the scapula corresponds to the levator scapulae and omohyoid muscle attachments.
- The infraspinous fossa corresponds to the infraspinatus muscle attachment.
- The subscapular fossa corresponds to the subscapularis muscle attachment.
- The infraglenoid tubercle corresponds to the teres minor muscle attachment.
Positioning and Location
- To locate the medial border of the scapula, have the patient sit upright.
- To locate the coracoid process, move medially from the lateral end of the clavicle.
- To locate the superior angle of the scapula, move superiorly from the medial border of the scapula.
- To assess the Subscapularis muscle attachment, have the patient flex their arm.
- To assess the Rhomboid Major & Minor attachment, have the patient sit upright.
Note: Some questions were repetitive, and I have only included each fact once in the study notes.
