- Chapter 101
- Amino acids have an amine group and a carboxylic acid group
- Amines are bases
- AA: Typically exist in zwitterion form
- Single unit- Residue
- Residue is the simplest unit
- R group: Controls structure and function for protein
- L-amino acids: L means Amine on the left.
- Which also means N terminus
- Carbosylin acid on the right
- Which also means C terminus
- When C and N terminus meet, they make an Amide Group
- You call it peptide because it contains < 50 AA and is less
- Protein is when you have > 50 AA which is more.
- Identifies our functional groups
- Non polar (CAA)
- Polar ()
- Acid
- Basic
- Complete
- 20 AA to memorize
- Total
- Nonpolar have three groups into them
- Aliphatic: (6) Gly, Ala, Val, Leu, Ile, Pro
- Alkanes (Carbon w/ single bond)
- Aromatic: (2) Phe, TRP
- Thir ether: (1) Met
- Neutral: is 6
- Alkane Attached to OH
- Aliphatic alcohol: Ser, THR (2)
- Phenol Cys (1)
- Thiol Tyr (1)
- Amide: Asn, Gln (2)
