Study Notes
CMCS Tests
- Tests are not allowed to run during flight due to the danger of influencing flight safety.
- The CMCS prevents tests during flight by special safety features.
Test Sequence
- System test is primarily a computer test, comparable to the power-up test.
- System test result shows:
- Test OK if no failure detected
- Name of the LRU that failed the test with a clear message
- Not a clear message requires additional information from the trouble shooting manual before repair can start
Trusting Test Results
- A test result can only be trusted if all components responsible for a reported fault have been really tested.
- In doubt, refer to the trouble shooting or maintenance manual to see the content of the test.
Manual Snapshot and Additional Data Retrieval
- Additional data retrieval functions of the Boeing CMC include:
- Hidden behind the CMC menu item "other functions"
- SHOP FAULTS information for workshop people
- INPUT MONITORING information about system input data in coded format
- Configuration - data about the computer program version
- These options are not used for normal maintenance.
CMCS Tests Purposes
- Two main purposes for the different test functions on a CMC:
- To confirm that the LRU really faulty
- To make sure that a repair or component removal solved the problem
Airbus CMC System
- Up to three different tests are available:
- System test - available in all systems
- Complementary test
- Output test
- Complementary test and output test are only available in certain systems
Boeing CMC System
- Two different types of tests are available from the menu:
- Ground tests - available for all major systems
- Confidence tests - available for only a few systems, used mainly for pre-flight checks
Test Operation
- Select the system to test
- Select the test by pressing the line select key
- Bite sends a test request signal to the system computer
- Bite displays "test in progress" while controlling the necessary test steps in the system
- Test result appears on the display when finished
Ground Test
- Ground test for FLAP CONTROL - L
- Test result appears when the test finishes:
- Pass: no fault was found
- Fail: press the LS key next to "FAIL" message to get the information to take corrective action
CMCS Complementary Tests
- When a component is not tested during the system test, for example, the moving parts of the Airbus system
- Four different complementary tests are available for the flap system
- Before starting the complementary test:
- Caution message advises of risks of personal injury and possible damage to the aircraft
- Fulfill initial conditions: hydraulic system must be pressurized or HYD ON
- BITE generates inputs to actuators and valves, checks the result by reading the feedback signals, and presents the test result
