Preventive Maintenance Tasks

• Replacement or adjustment of nonstructural standard fasteners incidental to operation is preventive maintenance.
• Installing anti-misfueling devices to reduce fuel tank filler opening diameter, when the device is part of the aircraft type certificate data and FAA-approved instructions are followed, and no disassembly of the existing tank filler opening is required, is preventive maintenance.
• Removing, checking, and replacing a magnetic chip detector is preventive maintenance.

Continuing Airworthiness

• Continuing airworthiness is the set of processes ensuring an aircraft, engine, propeller, or part complies with airworthiness requirements and remains in safe operating condition throughout its life.

Major Modification

• An alteration not listed in the aircraft, engine, or propeller data that might affect weight, balance, structural strength, performance, or other qualities affecting airworthiness and cannot be done by elementary operation.

Capability List

• Capability List Duration: 2 years
• Includes AMO rating, tools, facility, material, technical data, and trained personnel.

Certificate of Return to Service

• Issued by authorized certifying staff, that all necessary aircraft maintenance has been properly completed by the AMO according to the Maintenance Procedures Manual (MPM)

Types of Airworthiness Directives (ADs)

• Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NRPM)
• Final rule, Final rule; Request for comments
• Emergency AD

Airworthiness Directives (AD)

• Owner or operator of aircraft must comply with AD
• AD is no longer effective when it is superseded by a new AD
• There are no compliance requirements for an AD that has been superseded.

AMO Certificate Renewal

• Renewal of CAAP AMO Certificate must occur no later than 60 days before expiration.

Major Alterations

• Change to hydraulic and electrical actuating system of component: Airframe Major Alteration
• Change in Hub Design: Propeller Major Alteration

Compliance

• Agency shall develop Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC) that competent authorities, organizations, and personnel may use to demonstrate compliance with the provisions of the annexes of the regulation.

Avionics Rating Requirements

• Avionics Rating with completion of training in ATO requires 24 months in ATO plus 12 months practical work experience; limited powerplant/airframe requires 4 months
• Avionics Rating as per experience in Inspection, Servicing and Maintenance of Aircraft requires: Limited A/P Rating – 30 months and Avionics Rating – 36 Months
