Questions and Answers

What is the required action if the battery voltage is at or below 25.5 V?

  • The aircraft should be grounded immediately.
  • No action is needed.
  • A charging cycle of approximately 20 minutes is required. (correct)
  • Check the fuel levels instead.

If the battery voltage is above 25.5 V, you do not need to check BAT 1, BAT 2, and APU battery switches.

False (B)

What is the minimum battery voltage that indicates a risk of APU start aborting?

Flashcards

Battery Voltage Below 25.5V

When the battery voltage is 25.5V or lower, initiate a 20-minute charging cycle. Then, check battery voltages (BAT 1, BAT 2, APU BAT) with the selector on APU.

Battery Voltage Above 25.5V

When the battery voltage is above 25.5V, check the battery switches (BAT 1 pb-sw, BAT 2 pb-sw, APU BAT pb-sw) with the selector on APU position.

Aircraft Supplied Electrically Last 6 Hours

If the aircraft has been supplied electrically in the past 6 hours, check the battery switches (BAT 1 pb-sw, BAT 2 pb-sw, APU BAT pb-sw), with the selector on APU. Check battery voltages (BAT 1, BAT 2, APU BAT) above 23.5V. If one voltage is lower, recharge battery.

AVAIL Light On

When the AVAIL light is on, activate EXT PWR. If only one power source is available, use EXT PWR A. EXT PWR B can't supply GND/FLT directly without the whole network energized. Simultaneous use of EXT PWR B and APU GEN is forbidden.

EXT PWR Problems

If the AVAIL light doesn't turn on or the AVAIL/ON light goes out during EXT PWR operation, use EXT PWR to reset the GPCU.

Study Notes

Battery Voltage Procedures

  • If battery voltage is 25.5 V or lower, a 20-minute charging cycle is needed.
  • Check ELEC DC SD page, ensuring battery contactors are closed and charging.
  • After 20 minutes, check battery voltage for BAT 1, BAT 2, and APU BAT.
  • If voltage is above 25.5 V, the selector should remain on the APU position.

Aircraft Supplied by Batteries Only

  • If the aircraft is only supplied by batteries, after 5 minutes, the ground horn will trigger.
  • The ventilation EXTRACT FAULT light and ECAM warning will also activate.

Aircraft Electric Supply During Last 6 Hours

  • If the aircraft has been supplied electrically for 6 hours, check BAT 1, BAT 2, and APU BAT voltages.

APU Start on Battery Only

  • If starting APU on battery only, check BAT 1, BAT 2, and APU BAT voltage.
  • If one battery voltage is below 23.5 V, there is a risk of APU start abort.

AVAIL Light Is On

  • If the AVAIL light is on, ground personnel should connect EXT PWR A.
  • EXT PWR B does not permit supplying GND/FLT buses directly without energizing the total aircraft network.
  • Simultaneous use of EXT PWR B and APU GEN is not allowed.
  • If AVAIL does not activate or goes off during EXT PWR operation, the GPCU trips.
