Suspected Contamination

In case of suspected contamination of a SCBA air cylinder, specific measures must be taken, including consulting the Program Administrator (PA) or on-call Division Commander.
A cylinder air dump is required if contaminated air is found or suspected in an air cylinder, especially after recent compressor station/air light refilling.
A localized dump is possible if specific cylinders can be traced to a specific compressor.
The PA or on-call Division Commander must be consulted before initiating a cylinder air dump.
Each cylinder air dump must be controlled at a rate not exceeding 2,070 kPa (300 psi) per minute, with a residual pressure of 690 kPa (100 psi) maintained in each cylinder unless instructed otherwise.

Cold Weather Operations

SCBA users need to understand potential problems when using SCBA in cold weather operations and know how to address them.
Special problems may be encountered when using SCBA in temperatures below freezing.

Reporting

A SCBA Inspection Log must be maintained for each SCBA unit, accompanying the unit when sent for repairs or maintenance.
The log must be completed each time SCBA are inspected or tested at the beginning of each shift and after each use.
The SCBA Inspection Log must include date, time, inspection period, initial cylinder pressure, user/inspector's name, and platoon.

Testing/Record Keeping

Annual testing and certification of personnel using SCBA must be conducted, with electronic records maintained by the Training Division.
Company Officers must ensure annual SCBA certifications are conducted for themselves and their crew members annualy by the end of the second quarter.

Facepiece Testing

Facepiece fit testing must be conducted: before initial use, every two years as per CSA Z94.4-2018, and whenever changes to the user's physical condition could affect the facepiece fit.
