- The certification can be achieved via:
- A compliance test for those with a valid ICDL Full Standard certification.
- A single DigComp 2.2 exam for those without the ICDL Full Standard certificate.
Competence Areas and Levels
- The DigComp 2.2 syllabus and exam are based on "DigComp 2.2, the Digital Competence Framework for Citizens," the European standard for assessing digital skills.
- The framework identifies 21 key competencies for tackling digital challenges across various contexts, organized into 5 main areas:

- Highly specialized 7
- Highly specialized 8
DigComp 2.2 Exam Details
- The DigComp 2.2 exam assesses competence in the DigComp2.2 framework across 5 areas, up to advanced level 5.
- Candidates face an adaptive exam format:
- A question for each competence level.
- Area Example:
- Three questions in Area 1 (Information and data literacy)
- Six questions in Area 2 (Communication and collaboration)
- Four questions each in Areas 3 (Digital content creation), 4 (Safety), and 5 (Problem-solving).
- Evaluation is area-based: If a candidate answers positively on 2 out of 3 questions in Area 1, 4 out of 6 in Area 2, and 3 out of 4 in the remaining areas, they proceed to the next level, up to level 5.
- The exam lasts a maximum of 110 minutes. The number of questions ranges from 21 to 105, depending on the competency level
- There are 21 questions if no area passes to level 2, and 105 if all areas reach level 4 and are tested at level 5.
- The exam defines competence level per area, starting from the basic level 1, defined by "knowing how to perform simple tasks with guidance". Competence levels in the DigComp 2.2 model are 8. The exam certifies up to Advanced level 5, meaning the ability to "deal with diverse tasks and problems while also guiding others”.
