• Bihar is a land-locked state with fertile soil across its Gangetic plains, making it suitable for crop cultivation
• Net sown area in 2021-22 was 50.70 lakh hectares, covering about 54.2% of the total geographical area

Foodgrain Production

• Impressive foodgrain production of 19,736 thousand tonnes in 2022-23 despite adverse climatic conditions
• Five Krishi Karman Awards awarded to Bihar for achievements in rice, wheat, and maize production and productivity

Sugarcane Production

• Sugarcane production reached 214.76 lakh tonnes in 2022-23
• Average yield of 98.73 tonnes per hectare in 2022-23

Seed Production and Farmers' Training

• Rs. 1275.62 lakh disbursed for seed production, distribution, and farmers' training programmes in 2022-23

Irrigation and Water Management

• Irrigation potential created: 37.38 lakh hectares as of March 2023
• Irrigation achieved under major and medium irrigation projects: 25.04 lakh hectares
• Har Khet Tak Sinchai Ka Paani initiative aims to provide irrigation to unirrigated villages, with an allocation of Rs. 200.00 crore for 2023-24
