- Agricultural information dissemination was a concern of the state in Imperial China since it heavily relied on taxes and revenues from landowners and tenants.
- The first agricultural extension service came into existence in 1845 with the outbreak of potato blight in Ireland.
The Beginnings of Extension in Europe
- The University Extension or Extension of the University was first recorded in Britain in the 1840s.
- In 1867-68, James Stuart, known as "The Father of University Extension," and his fellow Trinity, Cambridge, took the first practical steps, giving lectures to women's associations and working men's clubs in North England.
