- The main conquistadors were Christopher Columbus, Hernan Cortes, and Pizarro, who sought to conquer new territories for Spain.
Christopher Columbus
- Born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy
- Believed the Earth was round, not flat
- Thought that sailing west of Europe would lead to Asia (China and India)
- Sought sponsorship from European countries, but only Spain accepted
- Sponsored by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain, who provided:
- Three ships: The Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria (flagship)
- A crew of men
- Food supplies
- Columbus vowed to:
