- Adverbs tell us when, where, how, in what manner, or to what extent an action is preformed.
- Adverbs typically modify verbs, but can also modify adjectives or other adverbs.
Types of Adverbs
- Time: Tells us when an action is done.
- Examples: yesterday, today, tomorrow, now, soon, already, later, recently, earlier, tonight
- Place: Tells us where an action occurs.
- Examples: here, there, outside, inside, nearby, everywhere, behind, upstairs, abroad, below
- Manner: Tells us how an action occurs.
- Examples: quickly, carefully, happily, slowly, loudly, well, neatly, easily, softly, patiently
- Degree: Tells us to what extent an action occurs.
- Examples: very, quite, too, almost, extremely, barely, enough, so, completely, hardly
- Frequency: Tells us how often an action occurs.
- Examples: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never, frequently, occasionally, constantly, hardly ever
