Admixtures for Concrete

• An admixture is a material added during the mixing process of concrete in a quantity not more than 5% by mass of the cement content of the concrete.
• Admixtures for concrete must comply with Table 1 of BS EN 934-1.
• Water is NOT considered an admixture for concrete.
• The purpose of a hardening accelerating admixture is to reduce the time required for the concrete to reach its desired strength.
• The purpose of a set accelerating admixture is to reduce the time required for the concrete to set.
