Adjectives

Definition An adjective is a word that modifies, or describes, a noun or pronoun by providing more information about its qualities, properties, or characteristics.

Types of Adjectives

  • Quantitative Adjectives: describe the quantity of a noun (e.g., five, ten, many)
  • Qualitative Adjectives: describe the quality of a noun (e.g., happy, tall, blue)
  • Demonstrative Adjectives: point out which noun is being referred to (e.g., this, that, these)
  • Interrogative Adjectives: ask a question about a noun (e.g., what, which, how many)
  • Possessive Adjectives: show ownership or possession (e.g., my, your, his)
  • Indefinite Adjectives: describe an unknown or unspecified quantity (e.g., some, any, few)

Adjective Formation

  • Suffixes: many adjectives are formed by adding suffixes to nouns or verbs (e.g., -ful, -less, -able)
