Counting On: This is a method used for counting up from small amounts, like when you have fewer than ten items. For example, if we want to find out how many fingers I have on my right hand, I can count them starting from zero until I reach the number five.
The Boring Method: Another name for this is the "column method," which involves placing all the numbers from left to right into columns and adding each column separately before moving down. For instance, if we need to add 9 + 4 = 13, we would put 9 in the tens column and 4 in the ones column. Then, we would add any carry over (in this case, none) to both digits to get our final answer.
Renaming: Renaming is just another tedious way of doing addition, where you rename the larger number so it fits neatly next to the other number. For example, instead of saying 8 + 5, you could say 3 + 13.

While there are several ways to learn addition, understanding the concept behind it is essential. It's the first step towards learning more complex mathematics, such as algebra, calculus, geometry, and statistics.
