Acetic Acid Test
- Detects the presence of albumin/protein in urine.
- Used to diagnose and monitor kidney function.
- Can help detect early kidney damage and disease.
- Important: A positive result may indicate toxemia, a disorder during the third trimester of pregnancy characterized by increased blood pressure, edema, and excess protein in the urine.
Acetic Acid Test Procedure
- Equipment: OB bag, sterile specimen container, acetic acid solution, test tube, test tube holder, alcohol lamp, denatured alcohol, matchbox, newspaper, dropper, clean gloves, and urine sample (2-3 ml).
- Specimen Collection: Follow strict standard precautions. Collect urine specimen before meals.
Benedict's Test
- Detects the presence of glucose in urine.
- Important: A positive result may indicate gestational diabetes, a condition that develops during pregnancy.
Benedict's Test Procedure
- Equipment: OB bag, sterile specimen container, Benedict's solution, test tube, test tube holder, alcohol lamp, denatured alcohol, matchbox, newspaper, dropper, clean gloves, and urine sample (2-3 ml).
