Psychotic Symptoms
- Delusions are beliefs not rooted in reality and can be:
- Persecutory (believing others are out to get them)
- Grandiose (exaggerated sense of self-importance)
- Reference (believing others are talking about them)
- Thought Insertion (believing others are inserting thoughts)
- Thought Withdrawal (believing thoughts are being taken away)
- Thought Broadcasting (believing thoughts are being broadcast to others)
- Somatic Delusion (unreal perceptual experiences related to body or health)
Disorganized Thought and Speech
- Features:
- Loose associations (also known as Derailment)
- Tangential speech (switching topics unrelatedly)
- Word Salad ( using meaningless words or phrases)
- Neologisms (creating new words)
Disorganized or Catatonic Behavior
- Catatonia:
- Involves waxy flexibility ( maintaining poses for long periods)
- Unpredictable or untriggered agitation
- Symptoms:
- Severe reduction or complete absence of affective (emotional) responses to the environment
- Can experience anhedonia (loss of ability to experience pleasure)
Functional Impairment
- Inability to persist at common, goal-oriented tasks at:
- Work
- School
- Home
- Severe reduction or complete absence of speech
