What are the three Braking groups in A380?

WLG, LH BLG, RH BLG

What are the five modes of operation of the Braking Control System (BCS) ?

Normal, Alternate, Emergency, Ultimate, Parking.

How many Alternate Braking Selector Valve (ABSELV) which operates independently in A380 Braking System?

four

Hydraulic Power source for alternate circuit?

1 each LEHGS for WLG, 1 each LEHGS for BLG and HP Accumulators

What component are used to refill the WLG and BLG accumulators and the LEHGS reservoirs?

The Alternate Refill Valves (ARVs) using the aircraft hydraulic circuit.

How many Alternate Refill Valves are there in A380 Braking System?

Three (1 for each Braking Group)

When does Alternate Refill Valve open?

They are controlled to open only one time in each flight cycle, after the engine start.

The control of the brake system is managed by two redundant systems. The Primary system which includes?

The primary system is digital and includes the Core Processing and Input Output Modules (CPIOMs) and the Interface Remote Data Concentrators (IRDCs).

The control of the brake system is managed by two redundant systems. The Secondary which is?

The secondary system is analogue and uses the Emergency Brake Control Unit (EBCU).

The control of the brake system is managed by two redundant systems. The Primary and Secondary system which is used in what modes?

The primary system is used in the normal and alternate modes. The secondary system is used in the emergency and ultimate modes.

Controls directly the Parking Brake Selector Valve (PBSELV) to supply 4000 psi regulated pressure from the BLG accumulators to the BLG brakes.

Parking Brake Handle

How long can the BLG accumulators can supply the BLG brakes with hydraulic power?

12 hours and on a 3° slope

What functions includes in Normal Braking mode?

Pedal braking (maximum pressure: 2600 psi), Auto brake, Anti-skid and Retraction braking only.

Which two Valves (in series) control the braking pressure in Normal Mode?

The Normal Brake Selector Valve (NBSELV), which is an isolation valve, The Normal Servo Valve (NSV), which controls the pressure to the demanded level and supplies regulation for the Anti-skid function.

What function in Normal mode does Alternate mode do not have?

Retraction braking

Which two Valves (in series) control the braking pressure in Alternate Mode?

The Alternate Brake Selector Valve (ABSELV), which is an isolation valve, The Alternate Servo Valve (ASV), which controls the pressure to the demanded level and supplies regulation for the Anti-skid function.

What Valve selects the highest pressure from Normal and Alternate Circuit?

Bogie Shuttle Valve

Only function in Emergency Braking mode?

Pedal braking

What is the Maximum Braking Pressure for Rejected Take Off configuration?

The maximum pressure is 1700 psi for the Rejected Take Off configuration. The EBCU uses the alternate hydraulic circuit and controls the ABSELV and the ASV.

All Braking group are in Emergency Mode if this switch is off.

ANTI-SKID

In Ultimate Braking where pedal braking is not available, how the BLG brakes receive hyd pressure?

Ultimate Braking starts when the parking brake handle is operated. The parking brake handle activates the Parking brake circuit and, at the same time, supplies Parking brake pressure to the BLG brakes.

In Ultimate Braking, when pedal braking is not available, how the WLG receives hydraulic braking pressure?

Through the alternate hydraulic circuit, the EBCU supplies a pressure to the WLG brakes (pressure limit: 1700 psi) if a ground spoiler deployment signal was sent before by the Flight Control System (FCS) to the EBCU.

The Emergency Brake Control Unit (EBCU) is energized by?

28 VDC ESSENTIAL BUS. If a failure occurs, the 28 VDC HOT BUS will replace it.

the parking brake selector valve is energized with?

28 VDC from DC GND SerViCe BUS or DC HOT BUS 1. Thus, the parking brake is available when the A/C is energized or not.

The BLG LEHGS is energized with? 115 VAC from AC BUS 2. The WLG LEHGS is energized with? 115 VAC from AC BUS 3

The BLG LEHGS is energized with 115 VAC from AC BUS 2. The WLG LEHGS is energized with 115 VAC from AC BUS 3

How to depressurize the WLG Alternate circuit?

First, on the FWD alternate brake selector-valve manifold turn the manual depressurization control (blue color) fully clockwise and hold it in this position for a minimum of 20 seconds. Then, on the AFT alternate brake selector-valve manifold.
Last, depressurize the WLG LEHGS reservoir by turning the manual depressurization control (gold color) fully counterclockwise.

Where can you find the WLG and BLG Accumulator pressure indication in the cockpit?

Triple Indicator for BLG SD-Wheel more page for WLG Only the lowest accumulator pressure is shown.

How to pressurize the WLG and BLG Braking Accumulators when all the Engine Master Lever are in off position?

Push the ACCU REINFLATE P/B installed near the parking brake handle. The WLG and BLG LEHGSs will thus operate at the same time to pressurize the BLG and WLG HP accumulators. Hydraulic fluid from the LEHGS reservoir is pressurized by the LEHGS electro-pump to pressurize the related accumulators.

If a depressurization of the alternate circuit was done for maintenance tasks, the two accumulators of the alternate circuit are depressurized and the LEHGS reservoir is empty. How can you pressurize the WLG and BLG Accumulators and LEGHS?

by Accumulator and reservoir refill function (BCS part of the CMS system report/test application)
