• The only two cities to bid for the 1980 Summer Olympics were Moscow and Los Angeles, and Los Angeles would eventually host the 1984 Summer Olympics.
• Several alternative events were held outside of the Soviet Union, and some athletes from boycotting countries participated in the games under the Olympic Flag.
