Study Notes

Cabin Crew Operations Manual - Normal Procedures

  • Normal procedures are daily operational procedures for Smartwings
  • This chapter details cabin crew tasks during phases of flight: ground/pre-flight operations, pushback/taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent/approach, landing, and post-landing/post-flight.

Reporting for Duty

  • Cabin crew is responsible for knowing their scheduled duty times and attending other duties as assigned in ECREW.
  • Cabin Crew must check up-to-date information in EFA and ECREW before each flight.
  • Crew members must carry specific documents for each flight duty:
    • CC license/CC aircraft type/variant qualification
    • Medical certificate (EU) No. 1178/2011
    • Valid passport
    • Valid ID card
    • Crew expiry dates report
    • International vaccination certificate (when required)
  • Each crew member is responsible for the validity of documentation.
  • Obligatory working aids: wristwatch, reflective vest, SCC folder with spare reports.
  • Recommended working aids: sewing kit, apron, torch, valid revision of Announcement Book.

CC Briefing

  • Briefing is completed prior to each flight or crew change.
  • Briefings are in English and/or native language.
  • The briefing covers CC competence and readiness, motivation for professional work performance, and company standards.
  • Objectives include checking CC competence and readiness for flight, motivating for professional work performance, and compliance, achieving desired quality, and safety, and activating teamwork.
  • Safety briefing includes: introducing, checking documents/uniform, SOP – Normal procedures (e.g. SCC distributes duty positions, information about the flight, PAX, aircraft, etc), surveillance of the passenger cabin, the lavatories, and the galleys, management of/and assistance to passengers, crew communication, and support to the flight crew.
  • Emergency procedures (SEP) include emergency procedures (native language commands), security procedures, first aid, medical emergency, and crew/FC/CC incapacitation, unruly behavior, unlawful interference or bomb threat, depressurization, fire, smoke event, and emergency descent.

Pre-Flight Check

  • Required checks and procedures vary by aircraft model (e.g. B737, A220, A320) and are detailed in specific checklists (e.g. G-MN-09 CCOM, G-MN-33 Inspections).
  • CC members are responsible for assigned emergency equipment and supplies.
  • Reporting of any observed irregularities to CMD and recording in the Aircraft Technical Log (ATL) is required.

In-Flight Information

  • Information examples include flight date/time, leg, departure/arrival airports, flight number, aircraft model, registration, and cabin configuration.
  • Catering information includes typical meals served to passengers and crew.

Trolley Management

  • Trolleys must be properly stowed and secured, especially during take-off, landing, and turbulence periods.
  • Inoperable trolleys should be labelled and not used.
  • Trolley use should avoid endangering passengers during service.
  • CC members are responsible for performing A/C security checks in the cabin
  • Security checks are performed when all ground staff have left the aircraft.
  • The checkpoints include seat areas, overhead bins, galleys, lavatories, and other areas.
  • Any discrepancies found are to be reported to CMD and the ATL.

Sealing Aircraft

  • TVS or contracted maintenance staff or pilots perform the sealing of aircraft access doors.
  • Specific tools for sealing and numbering procedures are used.
  • The sealing requirements apply to situations when the aircraft is not monitored in the standard security zones.

Announcements to Passengers

  • Cabin crew are responsible for all necessary announcements, in standard or emergency situations.
  • Announcements are made using the PA system or PRAM (Pre-recorded announcements) and megaphones in cases of failure.

Passenger Embarkation and Distribution

  • Before passenger embarkation, the aircraft readiness for boarding is checked with the Captain and SCC
  • Passenger embarkation procedures are for safety and efficiency (e.g. boarding the front rows first).
  • CC are assigned locations for greeting passengers.

Passengers with Direct Access to Emergency Exits

  • Passengers assigned to seats near emergency exits are briefed on evacuation procedures.
  • Passengers who may impede evacuation, or who have disabilities are excluded from these seats.

Passengers Safety Briefing

  • Briefing includes explanations of emergency exits, safety instructions, procedures, conditions for opening the exits (EVACUATE), and emergency exits safety instruction cards.

Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs)

  • Some PEDs may affect aircraft performance or safety during certain situations
  • PEDs are separated into categories and restrictions on use are set for each category.

Cabin Check - Taxi Out

  • Check all trolleys and catering equipment.
  • Passengers are fastened with seatbelts
  • Hand baggage is stowed
  • Forbidden electronic equipment is switched off.
  • Exit routes are unobstructed
  • Safety is ensured.

Cabin Check - Descent

  • Similar to the cabin check for taxi out, with emphasis on safety and readiness.
  • Crew members check seats, bags, and other equipment.

Cabin Secured Check - Before Landing

  • Ensure all areas are secured and ready for landing.

Cabin Secured Check - After Landing/Taxi in

  • Similar to the above, with focus on immediate actions after landing.

Use of Crew Seats

  • Crew members must be seated and secured at their assigned seats during takeoff, landing and other required circumstances.
