Success Criteria: I can create a dialogue of ordering something from a fast food restaurant. Where do Italians eat? Ristorante: Restaurant, can be fancy and expensive. Trattoria: Family run restaurant, home style cooking, more casual compared to a Ristorante. Tavola Calda: Cafeteria style restaurant. Osteria: Informal and rustic wine bar that serves regional food, tastings, and appetizers. Where do Italians eat? Pizzeria: Pizza restaurant, usually wood fired oven. Sometimes sold as “al taglio”(by the slice) or boxed and sold for takeout. Very popular eatery in Italy, so sometimes has other menu options along with the pizza as well. Activity: Think of a pizza store you like, jot down as many flavoured pizzas as you can think of Bar: Serves coffees and snacks, sometimes first courses. If you want just a sandwich you can go to a bar. A bar is a place in Italy that does not serve alcohol at all and there are no age restrictions. Many bars will have a stand up bar where you can order food and drinks. Pasticceria: A cafe that has its own bakery, and serves fresh pastries, cakes and even sandwiches. A great place to have your “colazione” (breakfast)- as italian breakfasts are very small and often quite sweet. Lesson 12 Learning Goals Learning Intentions: To identify and name common kitchen ingredients in Italian. To improve recognition of Italian vocabulary through a hands-on activity. Success Criteria: Students correctly identify and name at least 10 Italian ingredients from the scavenger hunt. Students match Italian names with the correct ingredients or pictures. Ingredient Scavenger Hunt! How to Play: 1. Prepare a scavenger hunt with hidden ingredients or pictures around the room. 2. Give students a list of Italian ingredient names (e.g., “pomodoro” for tomato, “zucchero” for sugar). 3. Students search for the items or pictures and match them with their Italian names. 4. The student or team that finds and correctly identifies all items wins a prize. Cooking Charades! How to Play: 1. Students take turns drawing a card and acting out the cooking term without speaking. 2. The rest of the class guesses the term in Italian. 3. Award points for correct guesses and encourage students to use the term in a sentence to reinforce learning. Poster Time! You will be designing hard copy A3 posters about “La Cucina” and the things you can find in La Cucina. 1.
