The Physical Regions of Barbados Barbados is divided into eight physical regions. 1. The St. Lucy Tableland The Saint Lucy tableland can be described as a plateaux (an area of relatively level high ground); it is a level or gently rolling land. This region is located in the north of the island. The Animal Flower Cave is found in this area. 2. The Western Terraces This area is made up of a series of terraces or steps rising up to a cliff which surrounds the Central Uplands. The area is broken in many places by gullies and streams. 3. The Central Uplands This region is found in the centre of the island, surrounded by a ring of cliffs. This area receives the heaviest rainfall. Mount Hillaby is found in the centre of this region. 4. The St. Philip Tableland This flat expanse of land is found south-east of the central uplands. Along the coastal parts of this region, cliffs, headlands and bays are found. 5. The St George Valley A flat valley which is surrounded by the Central Uplands, the St. Philip Tablelands and the Christ Church Ridge. T 6. The Christ Church Ridge This ridge or dome which rises insteps or a series of cliffs from the south to its highest point. 7. The Silver Sands Flats A low plain which reaches into the sea. 8. The Scotland District The Scotland District is made of many valleys separated by steep-sided ridges with sand, clay and gravel. Small streams can be found in this area along with soil erosion and loss of crops due to landslide
