STEPHEN: The Gospel of John The Gospel of John is a profound narrative that reveals the divine nature and mission of Jesus Christ offering insights distinct from the synoptic gospels. It begins with the powerful declaration, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). This opening affirms Jesus as the eternal Word, present at creation, and fully divine. Unlike the other gospels, John focuses not on Jesus’ parables but on His miracles which John refers to as "signs," underscoring their purpose to reveal His glory and inspire faith. John also records the testimony of John the Baptist who prepared the way for Jesus and recognized him as the Lamb of God. John 20:31 these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. It is evident that he wants us to have faith in God. NIÑO: In the gospel, the Lord is referred to as our shepherd. Shepherds are caretakers and protectors who look after their sheep. They keep an eye out for potential attackers and defend the sheep if needed. They care for wounded or sick sheep, as well as seek for and rescue those who have become lost or stranded. In line with Christ's teachings, shepherds love their sheep and strive to earn their trust. The sheep know, love, and trust the shepherd more than anybody else. A good shepherd is willing to die for his flock. Also, the shepherd is the one who leads his sheep to greener pastures. Whatever may be the challenges along the way, he will not abandon his flock. The Lord is our Shepherd While Jesus is seen as the gateway for the sheep. He provides mankind with salvation and protection. The gospel emphasizes that people who do not enter through the gates and climb in another way are called thieves and robbers. In conclusion, this passage emphasizes that Jesus is the one path to salvation, and those who come through him will receive safety, care, and abundant life.
