CH:- Presentation Basics What is Presentation? Presentation is a form of communication. In presentation, you communicate a message or your idea or your work in an integrated way by using voice, image and body language. Throughout our school life, we need to create visually appealing presentations for various purposes such as science projects or chief guest's introduction at the time of school function and much more. Presenting information clearly and effectively is very useful in many aspects of work and life. Presentations are important because:  They help to improve communication skills.  Many people feel terrified when asked to talk in public, especially to bigger groups. However, these fears can be reduced by giving presentations. Self-confidence can be developed.  Presentations help to communicate complex information in simple and interesting ways.  You gain real-world skills, such as the ability to present your achievements and skills during a client meeting or explain business proposals effectively. Getting Started with Powerpoint 2010:- You can start PowerPoint by clicking the following options in sequence: Start Button All Programs Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010 This will launch the Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 application and you will see the following presentation window. Slide Layout and Design- Slide layouts contain formatting, positioning, and placeholder boxes for all of the content that appears on a slide. Placeholders are the dotted-line containers on slide layouts that hold such content as titles, body text, tables, charts, SmartArt graphics, pictures, clip art, videos, and sounds. Slide layouts also contain the colors, fonts, effects, and the background (collectively known as the theme) of a slide. Design emphasizes the visual aspects of the slides, teaching students how to choose appropriate themes, colors, fonts, and backgrounds. They learn the importance of consistency in design to create professional- looking presentations. Working with Slide:- This includes basic tasks like adding new slides, selecting appropriate slide layouts, and arranging the sequence of slides to maintain a logical flow of information. They are also introduced to inserting and formatting text, images, charts, and other multimedia elements on the slides. Creating copy/ Duplicate slide:- Right click on any slide in the slide/ outline preview pane and select duplicate slide. A duplicate slide copy of the slide will be created below the slide. Right click on any slide and select copy. Now you can paste the copy of the slide anywhere in the presentation. Both the features are identical but in the duplicate option, the copy will be pasted just below the slide whereas in copy option, you can paste the coy anywhere. Deleting a slide: Right click on any slide. Select Delete Slide option from the menu to delete the selected slide. Animations and Transitions:- An animation is a special effect that applies to a single element on a slide such as text, a shape, an image, and so on. Animation means combining the still images in an attractive manner so that they create the impression of a motion graphic. Animation effects make the presentation more interesting. There are two different ways in which we can add animation effects to a presentation: a. Animation in between the slides during transition. b. Animation while a picture or text in the slide appears on screen. The content of presentation is very important, including its images, information etc. But the special effect and transition give the presentation a distinct professional touch. The movement of the presentation from one slide to another is called transition in PowerPoint. Creating Speaker notes: Speaker notes in PowerPoint can be a lifesaver for presenters who need a quick reference during their talk. Instead of struggling to remember key points or losing your place during a presentation, you can have your notes right in front of you. Adding speaker notes in PowerPoint:  Select a slide you want to add notes to.  View the Notes pane located beneath each slide. If it's not visible, you can make it appear by clicking Notes on the bottom taskbar.  You will see a blank space with the prompt "Click to add notes." That's where you can enter your speaker notes. Adding Multimedia: A multimedia presentation is just what it sounds like—a visual presentation using multiple forms of media. Unlike a standard presentation made up of static slides, a multimedia presentation uses sound, motion, and interactive elements. The 7 steps to creating a multimedia presentation are:  Create an outline  Select your software  Design your slides  Prepare media elements  Write  Incorporate media elements  Finalize Rehearsing and Giving Presentations: Rehearse Timings is a useful feature that helps us to practice presenting the slide show. Using this feature we can save the most appropriate timings needed to go through each slide and animation in the presentation during slide show. These timings can then be used to run the slide show automatically for the audience. The steps to use Rehearse Timings are as follows: 1. Select the Slide Show tab, then locate the Set Up group. 2. Click the Rehearse Timings command. 3. Practice presenting your slide show. When you are ready, move to the next slide or object, click Next button on the Recording toolbar in the top left corner. 4. When you have reached the end of the show, a dialog box will appear with the total time of your presentation. 5. If you are satisfied with your timings, Click yes, else do it again. The slides of your presentation will be displayed in the Slide Sorter View. You can test run the show to check the timings by clicking on the Slide Show button or return to the Noemal view by clicking on Normal View button on the computer screen.
