The students should be able to perform varied physical activities to test physical fitness. LESSON 1: THE CONCEPT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION WHAT IS PHYSICAL EDUCATION? Reason why Physical Education is not removed in the curriculum: Article XIV, Section 19 of the Philippine Constitution, the State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competitions to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry. To further this policy, the State shall establish and construct a state-of-the- art and highly scientific sports complex. AIMS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION COGNITIVE It is about the intellectual capabilities of the persons; particularly physical education which develops the students' knowledge to solve problems; it provides understanding of the rules. AFFECTIVE It is the aim of education to develop the emotional skills of the students. Specifically, this aim is fulfilled in the physical education course. It involves games usually played in a team which eventually develops the students' sportsmanship. PSYCHOMOTOR It is the basic function of physical education, to build up physical strength of the person. It develops organic system of the human body whose outcome is power to resist fatigue. It trains the body to sustain hardship. Particularly, physical fitness offers the following development in the human psychomotor. DEVELOPMENT IN THE HUMAN PSYCHOMOTOR Cardio-RESPIRATORY Endurance These physical activities freely allows the oxygen and nutrients to travel into the tissues thus remove the waste in the body. Constant performance of the exercises washes away the toxins. Muscular Strength Physical fitness provides ability of the muscles to exert and sustain force against weight or other forms of resistance. Muscular Endurance Muscular endurance is the highest amount of force that a muscle group is able to pull or push in a single contraction. Circuit training, and bodyweight exercises are all good ways to build muscle endurance. Flexibility Flexibility is the ability of a joint or group of joints to move through their full range of motion without pain or restriction. BODY COMPOSITION This refers to the matching of lean mass and fat mass as components of the body. It develops proportion of the body. HOW TO GET YOUR BODY MASS INDEX: LESSON 2: PHYSICAL FITNESS PHYSICAL FITNESS The capacity to finish a task or activity of the day without stress and fatigue. The ability of the body to fulfill a function with efficiency and effectively both in work and leisure. Benefits of Daily Exercise proper development of bones and muscles. helps one recover from sickness or accident. improves muscles formation and helps reform posture and eventually the look. helps control stress. maintains height. helps prevent heart failure and other forms of ailments. It delays aging. COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS THE DIMENTIONS OF WELLNESS WELLNESS Is a multidimensional state of being describing the existence of positive health in an individual as exemplified by quality of life and a sense of well-being PHYSICAL WELLNESS Physical wellness covers the behavior that promote healthy life-style which includes the regular exercise, balance diet, avoiding drugs and alcohol. Physical wellness also means developing a habit of self awareness including knowing the symptom of diseases, getting regular medical check ups and avoiding situations that pose harms and danger to oneself. HOW TO ACHIEVE PHYSICAL WELLNESS Maintain daily exercises. Follow safety measures. Practice safe sex. Take enough rest. Eat only healthy food and manage the intake. Don't smoke and protect yourself from those who smoke. Don't drink alcohol, if unavoidable, drink in moderation. EMOTIONAL WELLNESS Emotional wellness encompasses optimism, self-esteem, acceptance and capacity to express feelings. It also includes identifying the hindrance that stops someone from achieving these positive emotions. HOW TO ACHIEVE EMOTIONAL WELLNESS Balance your thoughts and feelings. Be positive. Ask and give support. Manage stress. Take the old advice: forgive and forget. Manage your skill. INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS A person described as intellectually well has the desire to learn more, to discover new concept to improve his skills and seek to emphasize the life-long learning. HOW TO ACHIEVE INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS Take much time reading. Encourage yourself to learn more languages. Appreciate art. Talk to people who are critical to your achievements or work(if any) SOCIAL WELLNESS This demands good communication skill, understanding other people like their likes and dislikes and including their expectations. HOW TO ACHIEVE SOCIAL WELLNESS Nurture good relationship. Be involved. Contribute something to the community like talent and express your thoughts, ideas and skills. SPIRITUAL WELLNESS The road to spiritual wellness covers contemplation, prayer and other forms of practices that support man's relation to God. HOW TO ACHIEVE SPIRITUAL WELLNESS Spend an hour alone in prayer. Examine your spiritual side. See if your values guide your decisions and actions. Accept the views of other. ENVIRONMENTAL WELLNESS This is an awareness of the present state of the Earth as affected by daily habits of the inhabitants specifically man. HOW TO ACHIEVE ENVIRONMENTAL WELLNESS Economize the consumption of natural resources like water. Stop the junk. Reduce the chemical use. Plant tress. RRR-Reduce-Reuse-Recycle. OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS This covers the actual work you are engaged in. Any kind of job as long as it gives you happiness and happiness to others around you. HOW TO ACHIEVE OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS Discover various opportunities. Establish dreams. Prefer the job you like. Get involved in planning. Be open to changes.
