Lesson 5 Media and Information LANGUAGES Learning Competencies: LO 1 – Present an issue in varied ways to disseminate information using the codes, convention, and language of media. (MIL11/12MILA-IIIf-15) LO 2 - Evaluates everyday media and information presentations regarding codes, convention, and message; and how they affect the audience, producers, and other stake holders. (MIL11/12MILA-IIIf-15) Specific Objectives: “Language may be a source of misunderstandings” -Marshall McLuhan, 1964” Technical Codes are the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story. Example: camera techniques, framing, depth of fields, lighting and exposure, etc. Technical codes also includes sound, camera angles, types of shots and lighting. For example: ominous music to communicate danger in a feature film, or high-angle camera shots to create a feeling of power in a photograph. Basic Camera Techniques: Basic Camera Techniques: Symbolic Codes show what is beneath the surface of what we see. Example: objects, setting, body language, clothing, color, etc. Symbolic codes include the language, dress or actions of characters, or iconic symbols that are easily understood. For example, a red rose may be used symbolically to convey romance, or a clenched fist may be used to communicate anger. Written Codes refer to the use of language style and textual layout. Example: headlines, captions, speech bubbles, language style, Examples of media producers: Journalist, writers, directors, recording artists, photographers, TV hosts, Cameramen, Sound and Lines men, etc. Performance Task No. 4 1. In group, create a movie trailer parody in 60- 90 seconds that applying the basic camera techniques. 2. Sumbit your output to MIL Page/portal of group leader. 3.
