Leisure equates with the enjoyment and satisfaction derived from free-time activities. Leisure represents a spiritual condition or state of mind, with the emphasis on self-expression and subjectively perceived freedom (Neulinger 1982) Freedom is generally considered the key element of leisure. Many definitions link the notion of leisure with free time—periods which are relatively free of economic, social or physical constraints. One of the primary needs of people is leisure that The time when you are free from work or affords psychological strength and refreshment other duties and can relax (Perez de Cuellar 1987). Key definitions and concepts: Recreation 4 Recreation refers to all those activities that people choose to do to refresh their bodies and minds and make their leisure time more interesting and enjoyable. Recreation is the particular use of leisure or activity undertaken during leisure, which may include travel and tourism. Some major distinctions are indoor/outdoor, home-based/away from home, active/passive recreation. Much tourism is recreational, in that a good proportion of tourist activity takes place during leisure time, often outdoors, for the purpose of personal pleasure and satisfaction. Key definitions and concepts: Tourism 5 “Tourism is a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon which entails the movement of people to countries or places outside their usual environment for personal or business/professional purposes. These people are called visitors (which may be either tourists or excursionists; residents or non-residents) and tourism has to do with their activities, some of which involve tourism expenditure.” (United Nations World Tourism Organization, 2010) Relationships among leisure, recreation and tourism. Recreational tourism resources are initiators for tourist travel and a very important tourist motive which animates the tourist movement. If the recreational-tourist resources are characterized by greater attractiveness better ambient and greater curiosity value, etc. this will initiate more massive tourist movement and greater tourist consumption.
