General Physics Lab. Laboratory Week 1: The Kinematics on Air Track Zakaria M. Abd El-Fattah Associate Professor of Solid State Physics Adj. Galala University, Al-Azhar University [email protected] Fall 23-24 The Kinematics on Air Track: Objective: The objective of the experiment is to verify the three kinematic laws using an air track. Displacement Velocity Acceleration Theory and Principle: Motion in one dimension The air track: Frictionless motion in 1 dimension. Only constant gravitational force acting on the cart. The speed of the cart and the time taken can be mg measured by two photogates The kinematic equations: Four equations that can be utilized to predict unknown information about an object's motion if No friction: continuous air flow other information is known. Constant Acceleration. Displacement Velocity Acceleration Experiment and Requirements: Two photogates Flag (w =2.5 cm) One cart Air track Procedures: Photogate (1) Fixed Photogate (2) Mobile (1) Incline the air track by small angle t1 and v1 t2 and v2 (2) Fix one photogate (1) at position x1 Cart (3) Locate photogate (2) at position x2 Δx (4) Record (t1 and v1) and (t2 and v2) x1 x2 Software (5) Repeat step 3-4 for different positions of t1 and v1 t2 and v2 photogate (2), i.e. different x2 Cart (6) All results are entered in a table like the following one (using an Excel sheet is recommended):- Δx x1 x2 Procedures: Δt = t2- t1 ΔV = v2 - v1 Δt2 V12 V22 Verify that the acceleration obtained from the three kinematic laws is constant Data Plotting: Δv(m/s) (sec) Δv = (a)Δt a = Slope Δt (sec) Data Plotting: Δx (m) Δv(m/ a (m/sec2) sec) Δt = (1/a) ΔV a is constant a = Slope Δt (m) Δt (sec) Δt (sec)
