The following are art elements: Visual Arts Eastside Learning Academy ELEMENTS OF ART Line Shape Form Color Value Texture Light Space ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Line Lines can be expressive and have a quality of its own, like: scribbles, whimsical or naïve lines, implied lines, blurred lines (lines that are smudged, shaded, or erased), aggressive lines, and calligraphic lines ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Shape There are various kinds of shapes: geometric shapes (triangle, square, etc.), biomorphic shapes (shapes akin to those that can be seen in nature like flowers and leaves), and amorphous shapes (shapes that are indefinitely formed like blobs) ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Form Three-dimensionality of an object. Can refer to the quality or likeness of an object to their real-life counterpart When drawing representationally, the aim is to portray an illusion of form with the help of techniques such as shading, lighting, and perspective ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Color also known as HUE. Scientifically, color is the light that bounces off a surface. This kind of color is Additive. In art, colors are sourced from pigments, making them Subtractive (when combining color pigments, one color cancels out the brightness of the other) ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Color ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Value Value refers to the lightness or darkness of a color/hue. The value of any hue can be changed by adding a neutral such as black or white. It is often represented in a tonal value scale which has two parts: the tints (lighter tones), and the shades (darker tones). A tone is a general term for a certain value ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Value ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Hair Piece 14 Texture Monica Rezman Texture refers to the feel or tactile quality of the surface of an object. There is also visual texture, wherein without touching the surface and just by looking at the work of art, we can perceive the illusion of roughness or smoothness detail of one of Vincent Van Gogh's self portraits (impasto technique) ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Light Without light, all the previous elements will not be possible. Light creates the illusion that color, form, and texture exist. Light can be implied, natural, or artificial (as with a digital rendition). The lighting of an artwork has a very strong effect on its overall impact. ELEMENTS OF ART Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines Space an area where the other elements can interact. There are two types: Positive space (area where the subject is positioned) and Negative apace (area surrounding the subject) e s F D S O CIP Art Appreciation Wesleyan University - Philippines O F ipl e R IN S rinc ign P l IGN p Des e S S OF e PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN are long held ipl composition techniques which have been proven and used by both fine and graphic artists to communicate ideas and concepts effectively.
