# Using Keyboard in WordPad ## Recapitulation A Keyboard is an Input Device that helps us to type anything on the computer. ## Central Idea... - Introduction - Steps to open WordPad. - Parts of WordPad window. - Creating and Formatting a document. - Saving the document. - Closing WordPad. ## Introduction WordPad is a text-editing/ word-processing program where we can type. It has simple and easy-to-use interface for typing. It provides various editing and formatting tools which help us to create documents. ## Steps to Open WordPad 1. Click on the Start button. 2. Click on Windows Accessories. 3. Select WordPad. ## Parts of WordPad window ### Let’s see the different parts of WordPad window. #### Title Bar - Contains the name of the document, WordPad. #### Control buttons - Minimize, Maximize, Close #### Home Tab - Contains tools for editing and formatting the text in the document. #### View Tab: - Contains the tools for zooming in and out the page, show or hide Ruler, etc. #### WordPad button - Used to open a new document #### Ruler - A horizontal line showing the margins and page layout. #### Page (work area) - The main area where you type and edit text. #### Cursor - Shows where the next character will be inserted. #### Ribbon - Includes different tabs for formatting, editing, and viewing your document. #### Zoom In & Out - Allows you to change the zoom level of the document. ## Creating and Formatting a Document To create a new document, open WordPad and type any text. (You can type the same text as given in the picture given alongside). ### Formatting Formatting refers to the appearance or presentation of any document. Different types of formatting tools are available on the ribbon. You can use the tool according to the requirement. **Note:** Text should be selected before applying any formatting. ### Activity Time Color the bird. Use the Color code given below. 1. Light Brown 2. Dark Brown 3. Orange 4. Red 5. Green 6. Purple ### Typing Posture The first step is to select a comfortable chair and sit in front of the keyboard. Your back should be resting firmly against the back of the chair. You should be able to reach the keyboard without needing to stretch forward, a chair with wheels (such as a typical office chair) provides this mobility. Your arms should be relaxed and elbows should be slightly bent, move your chair closer to or further from the keyboard as required. Place your hands over the keyboard and curl your fingers, do not bend your wrists. Avoid resting your palm, as this causes your wrist to bend (you can use a keyboard pad or wrist rest if you need to raise and rest your palms). ### Steps to type in capital letters. 1. **Step-1:** Type the following text. 2. **Step-2:** Click and hold the mouse left click at the beginning of the text, drag the mouse to the end of this line (text) and release the mouse click. The text is selected. 3. **Step-3:** On the Home tab, click on Font family and select a desired font. 4. **Step-4:** Click on the Font size and select any size. 5. **Step-5:** Select Center to center align the selected text. 6. **Use Caps Lock key to type in capital letters** You would see the font of the selected text size is changed, and now it is at the center of the page.
