CONTRAST is the difference between elements of art in a composition such that each element is made stronger relative to the other. III. GESTURE DRAWING Gesture drawing is a technique used to capture the movement of subjects 2. CONTOUR DRAWING Contour drawing involves using a continuous line to capture the edges of a subject. The goal is to create an outline of the subject without lifting the pencil from the paper. 3. CROSS HATCHING Artists can vary the pressure and direction of the lines to create different effects. 4. STIPPLING a technique used to create shading and texture in drawings by creating small dots. 5. SKETCHING a preliminary drawing skill used to map out the subject's proportions, form, and composition. 6. SHADING involves filling the shadows with dark strokes, and then gradually layering lighter ones to add contrast. 7. BLENDING involves filling the shadows with dark strokes, and then gradually layering lighter ones to add contrast. 8. SCRIBBLE a technique that involves sketching and shading in quick, irregular lines. 9. BACK AND FORTH a technique that involves making rapid back-and-forth strokes to add depth and tone to a drawing. 10. SMUDGING a technique that involves using a tool or finger to blend pigments on the surface of the paper to create soft transitions from one colour or tone to another. EXAM FOR PRE-MIDTERM RUBRICS FOR SELF PORTRAIT SKETCHING: Materials that needed: 1. Oslo paper 9x12 2. Pencil/Any type of pencil 3. Write your name/grade & section at the back of your Oslo paper. Strictly no pen/color pencil that will be used in sketching.
