**Brain Study Questions** Venticles of the brain: lateral ventricles fourth ventricle third ventricle cerebral aqueduct = helps connect the lateral+third to the 4th ventricle \*\*ventricles have **[choroid plexus]** = filters blood to produce clear CSF = done by capillaries and epyndymal cells ventricles are connected to the subarachnoid space because most CSF go into apetures which lead to subarachnoid space How subarachnoid space is connected to spinal cord: apetures branch off from 4th ventricle to subarachnoid space branch off 4th ventricle to spinal cord Frontal lobe, temporal lobe, parietal lobe, and occipital lobe Midbrain: superior one pons: middle Medulla oblongata: inferior one The overall function of the thalamus is to be a relay station for sensory and motor information. \*\* All sensory information **[except smell]** stops in the thalamus before going in the 2nd cortex. The main structure of the epithalimus is the pineal glans \*\*endocrine. The pineal gland secretes the hormone melatonin: regulation of circadian rhythm. The reflex superior colliculi are responsible for the vision reflex. Reflex inferior colliculi is responsible for the hearing reflex. The cerebellum is found in the posterior/inferior portion of the brain. The two functions of the cerebellum are spatial skills and puzzle solving and coordination of movement. The cerebellum and frontal lobe work together by having the first signals sent to the cerebellum **BEFORE** being sent to the muscles \*skeletal muscles\* that the frontal lobe is in charge of. Wernicke's area is responsible for language comprehension. Broca's area is responsible for language production. Wernicke's area is located lateral to the lefthemisphere of temporal lobe Broca's area is located lateral to the left hemisphere of frontal lobe Damage to wenicke's area would cause "word salad" speech that wouldn't make sense Damage to broca's area would cause a defecit in the ability to produce speech "broken speech" [The frontal lobe] is responsible for judgement, problem solving, understanding sequences, emotions, memory, and learning. [The temporal lobe] is responsible for sense of hearing, smell, memory, and language. [The ocipital lobe] is responsible for processing visual information [The parietal lobe] is responsible for processing sensation The insula is buried deep inside the lateral sulcus and responsible for sense of taste Olfactory nerve, optic nerve, and vestibulocochlear nerve oculomotor nerve, trochlear nerve, abducens nerve, and accessory nerve Trigeminal, facial, glossopharyngeal, and vagus Trigeminal V: V2 the maxillary branch
