Blue Zones Bluezones are places where people live generally longer Dan Buettner finds that what most people think leads to a longer life is usually wrong He says his project is "reverse engineering longevity" Researching for 20 years Studies areas where people are reaching 90-100 yoa without diseases that usually kill Americans Then taking these areas, they find the commonalities Diet is a whole foods plant-based diet Whole grains Greens Sweet Potato like foods Nuts Beans (eating a cup a day is associated with living an extra 4 years) Only 23% of Americans get the minimum amount of exercise Exercising in Blue Zones is not deliberate like going to the gym Rather physical activity is apart of daily living Buettner says that those in Blue Zones are a product of their environment. That they reach long life through natural daily living rather than deliberate health and exercise regimens "If your 3 best friends are overweight, its likely that you are overweight yourself" Singapore is a new and manufactured Blue Zone The environment is built to encourage healthy living
