12/10/24, 1:45 PM 4.2.6 Document Creation Facts 4.2.6 Document Creation Facts Before you move to mastering more advanced features, you'll want to learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Word. Using the Clipboard and creating, opening, and closing documents are tasks you'll frequently perform. You can use the File and Home tabs to do the basic tasks involved in creating a Word document. You can also use keyboard shortcuts and mouse actions on a document page. Paste Options To place copied or cut selections of text, you can use the Paste option on the ribbon or the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl + V. Undo or Redo You can undo or redo an action in Word without having to delete or retype anything. The Undo and Redo buttons are in the Quick Access Toolbar. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + Z (undo) and Ctrl + Y (redo). 3. Cut You can cut a selection of text, save it to the Clipboard, and paste it in another place. Cut text is removed from its original place in the document. When you have selected the text or object to be cut, you can cut in one of the following ways: Click the Cut button in the Home tab on the ribbon. Right-click the selected text or object. Click the Cut button in the shortcut menu. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + X. 4. Copy When text is copied to the Clipboard, the original version of the text remains at the location where it was copied from. To copy text, click the insertion point. Then you can: Click the Copy button in the Home tab on the ribbon. Right-click the insertion point. Click the Copy button in the shortcut menu. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C. 5. The Clipboard pane lets you: Paste copied items to a document. Clear particular items from the Clipboard. Clear the entire Clipboard at once. 6. Text Selection To delete, cut, copy, paste, or format text, the text must first be selected. Click and drag within the document to highlight and select a portion of text. You can also use the keyboard to select text by placing the cursor at the beginning of the selection, pressing Shift or Ctrl + Shift on the keyboard, and using the arrow keys to select text. New The New tab in the Backstage View allows you to either create a new blank document or create a document based on a pre-designed template. 2. Open Word documents can be saved for future access. The Open tab displays a list of recently opened documents to choose from. You can also click Browse to find a document that has not been recently opened.
