UTS Socrates He was a Classical Greek Philosopher and is one of the founders of Western Philosophy. Self is composed of two things: (1.) Physical realm – consists of anything we sense, changing and deteriorating. (2.) Ideal realm – concept of beauty, truth and goodness, that is unchanging and eternal Plato. Plato, through the words of Socrates asserts that societies have a triple class structure corresponding to the appetite, spirit and reason structure of the individual soul St. Augustine Western Christianity. For St. Augustine he emphasized that loving God means loving one’s fellowmen; and loving one’s fellowmen denotes never doing any harm to another or as golden principle of justice states, do unto others as you would have them do to you St. Thomas Aquinas Aquinas begins his theory of self-knowledge from the claim that all our self- knowledge is dependent on our experience of the world around us - Experience is the best teacher John Locke Tabularasa or blank David Hume Sences and experience RENE DESCARTES - COGITO- MIND - EXTENZA- BODY IMMANUEL KANT – INNER (MIND) AND OUTER SELF (APPEARANCE) ANTHROPOLOGY – SCIENCE OF HUMANITY MATERIAL CULTURE- PHYSICAL THINGS THAT ARE CREATED BY SOCIETY NON MATERIAL- INTANGIBLE PRODUCED BY A CULTURE SOCIOLOGY 1.
