Purpose: To have all uniformed members of the Las Vegas Fire Department project a clean, neat, and professional appearance. B. Scope: These regulations apply to all uniformed members of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. C. Author: The Fire Chief, or designee, shall be responsible for the content, revision and review of these rules and regulations, and shall ensure that they are consistent with any valid and applicable bargaining agreements. RESPONSIBILITY It shall be the responsibility of all supervisors to see that all personnel under their direct supervision conform to these regulations. REQUIREMENT A. IV. Expires: INTRODUCTION A. III. 11/19/14 Type: Rules & Regulations – 130 series Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Department: Signature: It is the requirement of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue that all personnel covered under the Scope of these regulations project a clean, neat and professional appearance by complying with these instructions. REGULATIONS A. Male suppression personnel: 1. Hair shall be neat, clean, trimmed, and present a well groomed appearance. 2. Hair shall not exceed one inch (1") below the top portion of the buttoned uniform shirt collar, while standing in the erect position. 3. Hair in front shall be groomed so that it does not extend below the band of a squarely worn uniform cap, or extend below that line if a cap is not worn. 4. Hair on the sides of the head shall be combed so as not to cover 130.20 Personal Appearance Page 2 of 3 more than one half (1/2) of the outside portion of the ear. B. 5. Sideburns shall not extend past the lower edge of the earlobe, shall not be any wider than one and one half inches (1 1/2") at the bottom and shall not be conspicuous in manner and styling. 6. Mustaches must be worn neat and trim, and within the following requirements: a) Not to extend down over the bottom of the upper lip; b) Not to extend over three quarter inch (3/4") (approximately one index finger width) beyond the corners of the mouth; c) Not to extend down beyond the half-way mark from the corner of the mouth to the bottom of the jaw line (must not contact the SCBA facepiece seal). (1) All above measurements consider total mustache hair length, (curling, twisting or otherwise shaping the mustache to meet the above criteria is not allowed). d) Facial hair contacting the SCBA facepiece seal is a violation of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A). 7. Full or partial beards, goatees, vandykes, or other facial hair not falling within the criteria of these regulations shall not be permitted. Male non-suppression personnel 1. C. Full or partial beards, goatees, vandykes, or other facial hair may be worn neat and trimmed to a maximum length of one half (1/2) inch from the skin. Female personnel: 1. Hair shall be kept neat and clean at all times and present a well groomed appearance. 2. Hair shall be worn in a casual style conducive to: a) Wearing the uniform hat; b) So that the hair does not exceed one inch (1") below the top portion of the buttoned uniform shirt collar while standing in the erect position. 3. Female personnel may pin up their hair in order to meet this requirement. 4. Hair pieces, if worn, shall conform with the preceding. 5. Bangs, if worn, shall be cut or fashioned so that the hair will not interfere with vision. 130.20 Personal Appearance D. Page 3 of 3 Male and female personnel: 1. Earrings are permitted, but with the following requirements: a) Earrings must be worn on the ear lobes; b) Not more than one earring in each ear lobe; c) They must be of a stud type with the stone or ornamentation not exceeding 1/4" in diameter. 2. Cosmetics worn by personnel shall be subject to approval by their supervisor.
