Year 9 Newsletter Week 7 2024-2025 Courage Compassion Respect Faith Integrity Bacon’s College ensures that every student is well educated, cared for and exhorted to achieve the academic and personal excellence that will lead to university or skilled work and to a fulfilled life. ‘I came to give life, life in all its fullness’ John 10:10 A week in the life of Year 9 Dear Parents/Guardians I hope you and your families are all well! Year 9 are continuing to keep the standard high. This week the student had an external company come in and perform a play about mental health. The students were really engaged and showed a lot of respect to the performers. With winter coming up, moods can drop, and it can be hard to get out of bed. If a student start to feel overwhelmed or have any shift in mood, the following poster can direct them to the correct people. Me, Ms Ley, Ms Whyte and Ms Bennett are also available for students to come and speak to. Below, you can see the high number of positives Year 9 have and our top 10 are also listed. These students are consistently doing the right thing at the right time and striving for academic excellence in their lessons and homework. The students are not in school on Friday 25th October. I hope they take this opportunity to catch up with outstanding work, complete their homework but also relax and get ready for the winter half-term. Curriculum leaders will be looking out for who will be a good candidate for their subjects. So, ensuring pupils are putting the effort into their work and behaviour. The form tutors and their school email addresses are below. Please note that emails may not always be responded to immediately, especially if they are sent outside working hours. Form tutors should be your first point of contact for any issues or queries that you may have and as a staff body we endeavour to respond to you within a 36-hour time period. She is competing at the World Poomsae Championships 2024 in Hong Kong. On Friday, K, E and E set out a stall to help raise funds for the trip. We will continue to have more fundraisers to get her there, so any help would be appreciated. This is a massive achievement for anyone and show how dedication can push you to achieve. Tutee of the week Every week our tutors select one student in each form to recognise their individual effort they have put into the week: ∗ Ms Fraser – Charlotte ∗ Mr Rushworth - Manny ∗ Ms Kader - Ernie ∗ Mr Younge - Elif ∗ Mr Farr - Courtney ∗ Mr Ferrari - Tony ∗ Mr Sagoe - Mahdi Attendance The year groups absence this week has reduced from 7.6% to 7.43%. I thank you in advance for your support in ensuring your child arrives to school on time and all efforts to get themselves in as the colder mornings and illness starts to creep in so they can reach their target of 97%. Please ensure you are contacting the school as soon as possible if your child is absent. As a school we are conducting absence calls in the morning, if you have already emailed then we may still call to check in on the student to see if we can support. If your child’s attendance drops below 96% you will receive a letter and we will have a meeting with parents to see if there is anyway we can support. Every day missed is 6 periods of learning gone, and with GCSE’s approaching, this is time the students will find hard to catch up with. Students with 100% attendance are: Sami Isabella Manny Melo Andrew Reggie Andi Thomas Adam Noortje Peter Sian Elaine Jayden Dominic Asare Adam Henry Billy Adam Danielle Ruth-Ann Eri Lexie Lilly Janice Sylvanus Jayan Olorunjuwon Frankie Kaitlin Demilade Seyi Mohamed Cherise Dmitriy Anas Ellie Eliza Idris Sam-James Jeriah Nicholas Rhys Courtney Vi Wafaa Donisha Andi Ishmael Emelia Emma Chantelle Ibrahim Hannah Jayden Tony Cornelius Kye Malika Lilly Jonathan Danielle Kelvin Rahmatulai Thai Jessica Jaden Taeja-Nyelle Benjamin Winny Elisabeth William Benjamin Phoenix Maniche Nakai Jamie Jack Oliver Beverley WELL DONE 9C for having the best attendance as a tutor group this week! Behaviour curriculum One of the college values is respect. It is a very important component of both personal identity and interpersonal relationships. Respect refers to the ability to value and honour another person, both his or her words and actions, even if we do not approve or share everything he or she does. It is accepting the other person and not trying to change them. Respecting another person is not judging them by their attitudes, behaviours or thoughts. Here is the graphic students see regularly for guidance on how to speak to staff. In Year 9, first impression count towards GCSE choices! It is vital students show manners and respect when interacting with staff and peers as we are preparing students for the real world and a successful future. RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME, DOING THE RIGHT THING!!! Pupil charter This year we have launch the pupil charter. This is a wonderful way for pupils to embed themselves in the college community and gain experiences. Students go through this with their tutors to see what they have achieved and gain points from it. Please view with your child to see if there is anything you can do to support them in achieving the termly goal.
