QUALITATIVE RESEARCH PRESENTATION - 2025 Phoebe Joy M. Pacut-Lopez Master Teacher I Qualitative Research Qualitative research design refers to different methods and approaches used to explore and understand ideas or issues. These methods focus on answering questions like “How?” and “What?” instead of “Whether” or “If,” which are more common in quantitative research. Qualitative Research In qualitative research, the idea of research design can be more flexible and is often called by other names like research method, approach, or type. Simply put, a qualitative research design is the plan that helps turn a research idea into a practical project that can be carried out by a researcher or a team. Quantitative vs Qualitative Nature of Data Quantitative Qualitative Uses numbers and statistics Uses words, descriptions, to analyze data (e.g., and themes to understand percentages, averages, ideas, experiences, or graphs) behaviors Quantitative vs Qualitative Research Questions Quantitative Qualitative Answers “How many?”, “How Answers “How?” or “Why?” much?”, or “Is there a (e.g., Why do students feel relationship?” (e.g., How stressed during exams?) many students passed the test?) Quantitative vs Qualitative Purpose Quantitative Qualitative Tests theories or hypotheses, Explores experiences, measures variables, and meanings, and deeper looks for patterns or understanding of a relationships phenomenon Quantitative vs Qualitative Methods Quantitative Qualitative Surveys, experiments, and Interviews, focus groups, structured observations open-ended surveys, and observations Quantitative vs Qualitative Sample Size Quantitative Qualitative Often uses large sample Uses smaller, focused sizes for generalizing results groups to dive deep into specific issues Quantitative vs Qualitative Analysis Quantitative Qualitative Statistical tools and software Themes and patterns are are used to analyze data identified through interpretation and coding Quantitative vs Qualitative Outcome Quantitative Qualitative Provides precise, Provides detailed insights measurable results (e.g., and explanations (e.g., "80% of students passed") "Students feel stressed due to lack of time management" Quantitative vs Qualitative Examples Quantitative Qualitative What percentage of How do students describe students prefer online their experiences with online learning over face-to-face learning classes?
